About Instructor

Yasuko MacNabb (Shunen MacNabb)

Second Sanyo Teacher, Sogetsu School of Ikebana

Born in 1971 in Osaka, Japan, Yasuko MacNabb is a certified Second Sanyo teacher of the Sogetsu School of Ikebana and an active board member of Minneapolis St. Paul Sogetsu Study Group. She began her study of Ikebana in 2003 under the guidance of Yoshie Babcock, developing a practice rooted in the Sogetsu philosophy of creativity, freedom, and contemporary expression.

Her work explores the dynamic relationship between natural materials and space, reflecting both traditional Japanese aesthetics and modern artistic sensibilities. She is an active exhibitor, with a particular focus on the Minneapolis Institute of Art’s annual Art in Bloom exhibition, where her arrangements interpret and respond to works of art across the museum’s collection.

Through her practice, MacNabb continues to engage audiences with Ikebana as a living art form, emphasizing innovation, balance, and personal expression.
