About the event
We are honored to take part in the KIDS GUERNICA project—an international art collaboration between the children of Nagasaki, Japan, and Minnesota, USA. This global initiative uses large-scale murals inspired by Picasso’s Guernica to promote peace through the eyes and expressions of children.
Children in Nagasaki have already completed the central portion of the mural, and now it's our turn! Children from our communities will complete the border, adding their own voices and visions for peace and connection.
We are grateful to the Saint Paul–Nagasaki Sister City Committee for including Cha-Ami in this meaningful project and helping to build connections across cultures and generations.
It would be wonderful to involve children, teens, and adults who are already connected with Cha-Ami in this creative process. A group of about 15 Americans, along with five Japanese children (ages 10 to 13), would be an ideal number for this collaborative painting experience.
Painting Parties at Cha-Ami

All painting materials will be provided—and yes, there will be pizza for supper!
The mural will be created on a large canvas placed on the floor. We’ll cover the space with tarps, and the mural will be left to dry overnight.
This is a special opportunity to connect through art, make new friends, and contribute to an international work that celebrates peace and cultural understanding.
