Join us for a hands-on Two-session workshop where you'll learn the traditional Japanese art of Shibori using Ai-zome (indigo dyeing).
This beginner-friendly class will introduce you to two simple techniques to create stunning blue and white patterns on cotton bandanas.
2-Week Workshop Details:
Week 1
📅 Date: Saturday, March 22
⏰ Time: 1:00 pm ~ 3:00 pm
📍 Location: Anthony Place, Suite B5 - Take Elevator to level B, an the end of hallway to your left
What You’ll Learn:
✨ Session 1: Clamp Resist Techniques – Experiment with folding and clamping methods (Itajime Shibori) to create bold geometric patterns.
Week 2
📅 Date: Saturday, March 29
⏰ Time: 1:00 pm ~ 3:00 pm
📍 Location: Anthony Place, Suite B5 - Take Elevator to level B, an the end of hallway to your left
What You’ll Learn:
✨ Session 2: Stitching Techniques – Explore stitched resist patterns (Nuishibori) to make delicate, intricate designs.
What to Bring:
🔹 Wear casual clothing that can get messy or bring an apron.
This workshop is a wonderful way to experience Japanese textile traditions in a fun, relaxed setting. No prior experience is needed—just come ready to dip, dye, and discover the magic of indigo!

Instructor:
Erica Spitzer Rasmussen is an artist who works in paper, book and textiles. Her current work explores issues of identity and family stories. Rasmussen is a recipient of the 2018 Minnesota Book Artist Award and various grants from the Minnesota State Arts Board. Other professional highlights include a papermaking residency in Vienna, Austria, a solo exhibition in Mexico City, Mexico and bookbinding residencies in Venice, Italy. Her work has been featured in such magazines as American Craft and Hand Papermaking. Rasmussen teaches studio arts as a full professor at Metropolitan State University in St. Paul, Minnesota.
